Links Du Jour: October 12, 2010 edition

Welcome back to the Candid Cameron blog after quite a long dormant period! Starting today and everyday, this will be your place for quick hit links style sports news.  Also, I will be aiming to post original columns twice a week in this very space.

Without further ado, let’s get to the links, shall we?

In case you haven’t heard, the Patriots brought a blast from the past back to Foxborough. No, not this one. She will not be back.

As we digress from Terry Glenn, the Patriots have brought Deion Branch back from the spot from which he was plundering on Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks depth chart. Where we last saw Branch he was gridiron BFF’s with Tom Brady and winning Super Bowl MVP accolades.

With his old #83 being worn by everyone’s favorite slot receiver, Wes Welker, Branch is donning the #84 jersey abandoned by the absence (which is not being missed by anyone, by the way) of Benjamin Watson.

Moving from the turf to the ice, and Sean Avery finds himself immersed in yet another controversy–again.

No, he didn’t say something stupid like this, or act like a nincompoop like he did when he did this. Instead, he’s complaining about someone else dishing out trash talk to him.

James Wisniewski, of the New York Islanders, wasn’t taking any of Avery’s crap after the time-honored Blueshirts pest crashed into the Isles’ crease, so he made sure he let him know about it. Was it a stupid and probably vulgar gesture on Wisniewski’s part? Sure was, but anytime Avery gets a taste of his own medicine, this here blog space stands up and cheers.

Finally, we’re going to cross the point for some soccer…Yeah, you read that right, soccer. But to preface, let me if you will make a statement about the great continent of Europe.

They have given us such great things as the collective works of Michaelangelo, Oscar Wilde, and The Beatles. Not to mention they’ve given us some pretty awesome soccer.

The Euros have also given us some pretty awesome soccer goal celebrations. However, This morning, I am saddened to report that we have reached a new low in proud celebrations on the pitch.

Montenegro’s Mirko Vucinic has given us that new low. After scoring a clutch goal against the Swiss this weekend, he proceeded to do this.

At the risk of sounding like Lloyd Bentsen here, Mr. Vucinic, you are no Starjnan of the Icelandic league. I know Starjnan, and you sir, are no Starjnan.

With all of that said, hope you enjoy what is left of your Tuesday!
